This TV spot for the ‘Arthur’s Day’ celebration is the story of friends hooking up across town and heading out to a night of great bars and live music. But in an unusual twist, we only see the cast in shadow, enabling the audience to substitute their own mental picture of who is going out. While there are some shots from Cork and Belfast, the spot was predominantly shot in Dublin using a Canon 7D. An Irish commercial dependent on sunshine seemed like a challenging prospect at the outset, but great weather in June and a little bit of compositing have helped create the wistful illusion of a sun drenched city. Below is the ‘Photo Sketchbook’ which established the look and tone of the shots before we rolled in live action.
