Richard Chaney spent some time hanging out in Jamaica with the fastest human in history, Usain Bolt, while directing a new Digicel spot by Boys & Girls, Dublin. Dave Burke produced the 5 day, hybrid motion & stills shoot and made sure the crew turned up in time for flights home.
A crowd sourcing campaign followed, led by the big man himself appealing to the people of the Caribbean to join him on his ‘Run to London’. The Facebook app brought in a vast array of hillarious pics to add to the mountains of images Piranha Bar had shot on location. Piranha Bar’s editors and long-suffering Darach on the VFX decks then set about the painstaking task of sifting through some 16 000 stills to meticulously mashup the run sequences used in the final piece.
Although Usain’s (we’re on first names terms now) Olympic record in the 100m made it all worth while, nothing beats our own record – ’7 Months – The longest post-production in Piranha Bar history’.
Music was by Say Thank You, Cape Town.
We had a bit of craic with the big man making this online call for entries to the ‘Run to London’ campaign. Images selected through the Facebook app would be used in the final TVC.
